Study: lifelong endurance athletes carry more coronary plaque
Brady Holmer flags the Master@Heart study, which compared 191 lifelong endurance athletes, 191 later starters and 176 non-athletes, all middle-aged men averaging about 56. The lifelong athletes were 1.86 times as likely to have at least one coronary plaque (fatty buildup in the heart's arteries), and 2.8 times as likely to have non-calcified plaque in the proximal arteries.
