Carb loading should not leave you stuffed, Holmer says
Brady Holmer says a carb load is not more food, it is a different mix of food. He also tells marathoners to stop trying to lose weight mid-block.

Holmer: a carb load is a ratio change, not more food
Brady Holmer says runners loading carbs before a marathon should not be eating more food at all, just a higher share of calories from carbohydrate. He was answering a post from Hank, who said carb loading should not leave you stuffed and bloated for three days.
Some fullness is normal, but if you’re miserable the entire time, there’s probably a better way to go about it!
Holmer tells marathoners not to diet during a block
Asked for tips on losing weight mid marathon block, Brady Holmer said do not try. His advice is to focus on performance in the block and save weight loss for base phase or the off season. The runner who asked wanted to hold carb intake while cutting.
My tip is to not try to lose weight during a marathon block.
Holmer puts running impact at 7 to 8x body weight per step
Brady Holmer says running loads you with 7 to 8 times body weight per step, while rucking (walking with a weighted pack) sits closer to 3x plus whatever you carry. He credits Michael Easter, who he says reports the military consistently finds more soldiers hurt running than rucking.
I rarely go for a walk now without my plate carrier, largely thanks to Mike’s info!
