Geerts and Steyaert's backyard record is 516.7 miles
The Belgian pair's 124 laps add up to 831.5 km, and it is the third time they have set the mark.
The numbers behind the new backyard ultra record are in. The 124 laps Merijn Geerts and Ivo Steyaert ran at the 2026 Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Team Championships work out to 516.7 miles, or 831.5 km, iRunFar says. It is the third backyard ultra record the Belgian pair have set together.
The pair finished as the last two runners standing at the team championship. Coach Ian Sharman called it over five days of running for a pair of Belgian men in their 50s, and said experience and long-term endurance count the most in these events. Canadian Trail Running also covered it as a shared world record for the duo.

What it actually means
Geerts and Steyaert have now set this mark together three times, which iRunFar frames as the story, not just the distance. Both men are credited with the same 124 laps and the same 516.7 miles.
