Kipchoge, 41, wins Melbourne in a course record 2:09:10
His first marathon victory in three years, and the fastest time ever run on the Melbourne course.
Eliud Kipchoge won the Melbourne Marathon in 2:09:10, a course record, at 41 years old.
His team, dsm-firmenich Running Team, posted the result and called him the fastest ever on the streets of Melbourne. Jonathan Gault added the number that gives the day its weight. It is Kipchoge's first marathon victory since he won Berlin in 2023.
The greatest of all time is the fastest ever on the streets of Melbourne.

The gap before this one
That is the part worth sitting with. The two-time Olympic champion has spent the last stretch of his career racing marathons without winning them, and the questions that come with that have been loud. Melbourne ends the streak, and it does not end it with a tidy jog to the tape. A course record means nobody has ever run the race faster, at any age.
r/AdvancedRunning picked up the result the same way the rest of the sport did, leading with the age. Forty-one, course record, no caveats attached to the time.
What it actually means
A 2:09:10 is not a Kipchoge personal best and nobody is pretending it is. He has run far quicker on flatter, faster, more heavily paced courses, and Melbourne is not Berlin. What it is instead is a win, and wins had become the scarce thing. The sources here do not describe the race, the weather, the field or how the move went, so treat the splits and the story of the day as unreported for now.
What is confirmed is clean enough. Kipchoge turned up, ran faster than anyone has run that course, and left with the trophy. For a runner whose last three years have mostly been framed around what he can no longer do, that is the headline, and his own team reached for the GOAT label to say it.
