Big's Backyard team race is on, and the carb case shifts
At Big's Backyard Ultra, Keith Dunn says 24 yards is not even table stakes this year. Meanwhile Brady Holmer says 100 grams of carbs an hour breaks the link between fat burning and late-race durability.

Races and results
Big's Backyard Ultra world team championship is underway
The Big's Backyard Ultra World Team Championship started at 7:00 CDT, with live results for the US team posted by Keith Dunn. Dunn says you can wait until tomorrow to start following, because the yards (hourly loops) that end most backyard races barely register here.
At this race, 24 yards isn’t even table stakes.

Holmer: 100g of carbs an hour changes what durability depends on
Brady Holmer says high-carb fueling works partly by rewriting what durability (holding power late in a long effort) rests on. He points to Gabriele Gallo's finding that without carbs, higher fat burning early in exercise predicted greater durability, a relationship that vanished at 100 grams per hour. Holmer says three recent studies converge on this.
With high carbohydrate intake (100 g/h), this relationship was not observed.
