Ingebrigtsen to run 5000m first in Budapest, TV2 reports
The 1500m against Josh Kerr and Cole Hocker is still an open question, and the answer may not come until Sunday.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen will race the 5000m on Friday at the World Ultimate Championships in Budapest, then decide whether to run Sunday's 1500m, according to a TV2 Norway report relayed by LetsRun's Jonathan Gault.
Gault posted the report on X. He attributes it entirely to the Norwegian broadcaster, so treat it as a TV report passed along by a reporter, not a statement from Ingebrigtsen or his team.
That schedule matters because the 1500m is the men's distance race everyone wanted. CITIUS MAG lists Josh Kerr v Ingebrigtsen v Cole Hocker among the matchups to watch in Budapest, alongside Julien Alfred v Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in the women's 100m, Oblique Seville v Kenny Bednarek, and Audrey Werro v Keely Hodgkinson v Femke Broeders-Bol. Running the 5000m first keeps the 1500m alive without committing to it, which means Sunday's field is not settled yet.
The other headline race
LetsRun's sprint preview makes Sunday's 400m hurdles the other must-watch. Alison dos Santos arrives with a 45.80 world record and six sub-47 clockings in 2026, and he meets Karsten Warholm and Rai Benjamin. LetsRun frames it as a question of whether dos Santos owns the greatest 400m hurdles season ever, comparing him to Warholm in 2021 and Edwin Moses in 1983.
Benjamin is not saving himself for it. LetsRun says he is attempting a 400m and 400m hurdles double on Saturday with 99 minutes between the two races. Gault ran a one on one with Benjamin in which the American explains why he is doing it.
The LetsRun preview also flags Masai Russell trying to close out an undefeated season and Collen Kebinatshipi chasing the 400m world lead. Alfred and Jefferson-Wooden are 1 to 1 against each other this year, so Budapest breaks the deadlock.
What it actually means
The championship itself, previewed here earlier, pays $150,000 per title, which is why the fields look like this in September. For distance fans the practical takeaway is simple. Watch the 5000m on Friday knowing Ingebrigtsen's Sunday is still in the air, and do not book the Kerr v Ingebrigtsen v Hocker showdown until someone official says so.
CITIUS has published men's and women's previews, a preview podcast and the full schedule.

Rai Benjamin takes on an audacious 400/400m hurdles double with just 99 minutes between races on Saturday.
