Kerr wins the 1500 after being projected 13th of 12
World Athletics' broadcast graphic projected Josh Kerr to finish 13th in a 12-man field, and he won the World Ultimate 1500m in 3:29.35 off a 52.57 last lap. Jonathan Gault and LetsRun now want the win probability graphics scrapped, while Jakob Ingebrigtsen took the 5000m and then pulled out of the 1500.

Ingebrigtsen wins the 5000 in 12:59, then pulls out of the 1500
Jakob Ingebrigtsen took the World Ultimate 5000m in 12:59.24 with a 26.07 last 200m and a 12.60 final 100m. Americans filled five of the top seven behind him: Cole Hocker 13:00.05, Parker Wolfe 13:00.13, Nico Young 13:00.26, Grant Fisher 13:00.34 and Graham Blanks 13:00.40. A day later he withdrew from the 1500m, saying he is not in a position to race back to back while recovering from Achilles surgery. His brother Henrik said Jakob had only four weeks of real training before European champs and is "nowhere near" his 2024 5000m fitness.
The US 5000m dream team had a spread last night that would put any cross country team to shame: the five runners were separated by just .35 of a second.
I find 5K-specific training to be very terrible, in terms of feeling.
Josh Kerr wins the 1500 after the broadcast projected him 13th of 12
Kerr took the World Ultimate 1500m in 3:29.35, holding off Cam Myers (3:29.68) with Hobbs Kessler, Cole Hocker and Yared Nuguse third, fourth and fifth inside three hundredths of a second. Gault called it maybe the fastest close ever in a sub-3:30 race, a 52.57 last lap, and LetsRun put his final 800m at 1:47.79. The pre-race broadcast graphic projected Kerr to finish 13th in a 12-man field. Nuguse nearly lost a shoe surging with 600m to go and still ran 3:30.76 for fifth.
Sorry, these win probability graphics need to be scrapped if this is the garbage they're churning out.
13's one of my lucky numbers, so that's fine with me.
I really ran the race the way I wanted to. I think if my shoe had stayed on, who knows…

Reekie runs 4:14 for a Fifth Avenue Mile record, Langon wins in 3:45
Jemma Reekie won her third Fifth Avenue Mile in 4:14 (unofficially 4:13.8), a second under the co-records of Karissa Schweizer and Laura Muir, with Josette Andrews second in 4:17 and Rachel McArthur third in 4:18. Marco Langon took the men's race in 3:45.0 for the biggest win of his young pro career, with Jake Heyward edging Adam Spencer for second, both timed in 3:45.8. It rained, and Reekie says her coach had her doing road-specific sessions for the past two weeks. LetsRun's recap also flags Olli Hoare's shoe troubles on the day.
I honestly didn't know I had it until I crossed the finish line.
It's 9m downhill, and 100% start/finish separation. Definitely not record-eligible.
Adam Spencer calls Ingebrigtsen a sore loser over the Brussels pacing row
In the clip, Hocker tells Ingebrigtsen he just wanted a race, not a world record attempt. After winning the 5000m in Budapest, Ingebrigtsen told reporters the incident was a bit misunderstood and that open dialogue matters. Spencer, third at Fifth Avenue, said Ingebrigtsen would not have had any issues if he had won. Hocker says it got blown out of proportion, and Josh Kerr, asked what he said to Ingebrigtsen at the closing ceremony, replied: "I said he was a great 5K runner."
I think Yako was a bit of a sore loser to be honest.
It was a Diamond League final. We weren’t setting a world record. I just wanted a race.
If opening your mouth is creating a war or creating a fight, then that’s not my problem.

Adios Pro 5 ditches the rods, one tester ranks it behind Fast-R 3
One r/RunningShoeGeeks poster weighed the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 at 195g in a US 10.5 ($250, 39mm heel) and says adidas has finally dropped its energy rods for a carbon plate it calls an energy rim, making the shoe lighter and more stable than the Pro 4 but still "just a hair behind" the Fast-R 3 and Metaspeed Ray, on nine miles of running. Kofuzi says the Saucony Endorphin Speed 6 (226g, 38mm stack, $175 on October 15) is lovely at threshold and firm for daily miles, and that $160 would be the right price. The Run Testers call the Altra Vanish Carbon 3 ($240, 238g, 40mm heel) the brand's best racer while saying it falls short of the New Balance SC Elite v6 and Brooks Hyperion Elite 6, liked the Tracksmith Eliot Ryder ($220, 295g, 45mm heel) apart from the price, and picked the Novablast 6 ($155) over the Gel-Nimbus 28 ($170). Believe in the Run graded the 361 Degrees Kairos 4 ($140, 292g, 35/28mm) a D on design. Also out this week: official Nike Alphafly 4 images.
I'd love to see it a little bit cheaper, like 160 would be an excellent price for this shoe
This is Altra's best racing shoe yet
This shoe is slow and unexciting.

Believe in the Run says keto before a carb load rests on 1960s research
The Fuel for the Sole podcast says the viral advice to go keto for three days before a 2.5-day carb load (loading up on carbohydrate in the days before a race) comes from 1960s work that modern research does not support, and that the deplete-then-supercompensate theory is out. They also shot down a post telling runners to skip bread during a carb load. For Berlin they suggest 60 to 90 grams of carbs an hour and warn the course has water and Maurten drink mix but no electrolytes, so bring your own: they name Victus gels at 45 grams of carbs and 380mg of sodium per gel, plus SiS Beta Fuel and Never Second at 200mg. Separately, one r/AdvancedRunning poster is hunting for gels with a lower glucose-to-fructose ratio so he can move from 90 to 120 grams an hour.
It looks like a 2:1 or 1:0.8 glucose to fructose ratio is common in gels, but this provides too much glucose... that shouldn't be more than 60g/hr (at least according to Steve Magness).
don't eat bread during carb load, only potatoes and rice

Megan Eckert runs 636.482 miles in six days, world record pending ratification
Eckert covered 636.482 miles in 144 hours on a paved loop in Hungary, beating her own six-day world record by 33.327 miles and passing Joe Fejes's overall American record of 606.243 miles. iRunFar reports she averaged 4.420 miles per hour across the full six days, sleep and stops included, and became the first woman past 1,000 kilometers in a six-day race. The mark is pending ratification by the IAU (the international ultrarunning federation).
Salomon takes Ironman title sponsorship from Hoka for 2027 to 2031
Believe in the Run reports Salomon will be title sponsor of the Ironman World Championship from 2027 through 2031, covering footwear, apparel and bags, and taking a slot Hoka has held for more than eight years. Salomon is naming Marjolaine Pierre, Julie Iemmolo and Casper Stornes as its elite athletes under the deal.
Paris Marathon's no-cups rule has runners planning around refill stops
A r/Marathon_Training poster in the 2027 lottery says Paris has no cups and no bottles on course, so you carry your own cup or flask and get it filled by a volunteer with a hose or at a rack of push-button taps. He asked runners from 2026 how much time each stop costs at 3:25 to 3:30 pace, and says the replies were split.
Boston Marathon entries opened and the cutoff guessing started
Registration opened this week and r/AdvancedRunning turned into a buffer-comparing thread, with the original poster sitting on 7:44 under the standard.
