Adios Pro 5 drops the energy rods for a carbon plate
Plus kofuzi on the $175 Endorphin Speed 6 and the first official Alphafly 4 images.
adidas has finally moved on from its energy rods. A r/RunningShoeGeeks poster with the Adizero Adios Pro 5 says the shoe now uses a carbon plate that adidas calls an energy rim, and that the change makes it lighter and more stable than the Pro 4.
The numbers match the earlier first look. 195g in a US 10.5, $250, 39mm in the heel with a roughly 6mm drop. Lightstrike Pro foam again, firmer than the Pro 4 but still soft. The poster ran nine miles across paces from 7:30 per mile down to 5:00 per mile and put the shoe "just a hair behind" the Puma Fast-R 3 and the Asics Metaspeed Ray, while preferring it to the Brooks Hyperion Elite 6 and the New Balance SC Elite v6. That is one person and nine miles, so treat it as a first impression rather than a verdict.
Endorphin Speed 6 lands October 15 at $175
kofuzi has the Saucony Endorphin Speed 6 at 226g in a US 9, 38mm stack with an 8mm drop, on a new PWRRun PBX foam and a full-length semi-rigid plastic plate. At threshold pace he calls the foam lovely and the ride effortlessly fast. At easy daily pace it feels firm and structured. He thinks the price is the problem, not the shoe.
The Tracksmith Eliot Ryder is the other one worth knowing about. The Run Testers call it the best Tracksmith shoe yet, a 45mm heel max cushion trainer at 295g with a 25mm drop-in supercritical ATPU midsole, and say the only real drawback is the $220 price sitting above the market even in an expensive category.
361 Degrees Kairos 4 gets a D on design
Believe in the Run liked the stability of the $140 Kairos 4, a 35mm heel stability shoe at 292g, and liked the upper. Reviewer Sam Sheldon graded it D on design and C on performance and value, calling the Engage foam flat and firm when running.
Also this week, official Nike Alphafly 4 images surfaced on r/RunningShoeGeeks. Nike's Poland site lists roughly 188g in a men's size 42, an 8mm drop and a 9/17 release, with two ZoomX foams and a wide carbon Flyplate. One poster says Fit2Run had it at $275 before the page came down.
I'd love to see it a little bit cheaper, like 160 would be an excellent price for this shoe
This shoe is slow and unexciting.
